Dolphins sign former Colts RB to the practice squad

After Miami Dolphins practice squad running back Darrynton Evans was signed by the Chicago Bears, Miami had an open spot on the 16-man group.

On Tuesday, the Dolphins filled that spot by signing running back Jake Funk, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Funk, 25, spent his collegiate years at Maryland where he rushed for 968 yards and 10 touchdowns on 7.2 yards per carry while adding another 134 yards and three scores on 23 receptions.

After declaring for the 2021 draft, Funk was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the seventh round. He spent over a year with Sean McVay’s team, rushing for five yards on two carries in 15 games. He also played on special teams and returned some kicks.

Since being waived in October of 2022, he’s spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. He appeared in five games for Indianapolis, running for 10 yards on two carries and bringing in one catch for 12 yards before being waived on Saturday.

With Miami losing Evans to Chicago and De’Von Achane to a knee injury, depth at the position could end up being more important in the near future.
