Dolphins injury updates after Week 15 win vs. Jets

The Miami Dolphins have had a long list of injuries in recent weeks that have left them playing without starters in each phase of the game.

After their Week 15 victory over the New York Jets, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to the media and updated them and the fans about a number of players who have been sidelined due to injuries.

Here’s what he had to say during his availability on Monday afternoon:

“With Austin, I would say that the timeframe isn’t what Jaelan Phillips was (earlier in the season). It’s not as severe. However, we’re going to have to see how it progresses through the week. Day-to-day, I would say with some optimism, but there’s a lot of unknown.”

“Inherently, to me, if you are working a player out before the game, inherently, they’re close. If you are taking it to the game day and putting them through a workout, for me, that is close enough that you couldn’t rule it out. As far as how it progresses during the week, we’ll take that a day at a time, but I think, with the guys that were working out before the game, that, in itself, lets you know that it’s close. If it wasn’t close we wouldn’t be working them out.”

“In terms of the guys that were out this game, talking about (Nos.) 21 and 8, right? We’ll continue to take it day-by-day with Jevon… He’s been tirelessly trying to get back, so his body will tell him and us when it’s ready to go, but I can promise you that he’s been as delligent as anyone.

“Has DeShon cleared concussion protocol already? Not yet. He’s been progressing well, and we’re anticipating those final stages. That’s, again, with concussions, unfortunately, we’re well-versed in that (area). I just want to make sure that he’s good to go and don’t really worry about a timeline, but (we’re) very optimistic as you can tell.”

“Soft tissue. Should be day-to-day. We’ll see for this week.”

“Again, I don’t like to completely shut the door on anything. What I do know is he’s been doing well, and I haven’t really been worried about a timeline for both us and him. So, it’s not really on my radar, at this time. I’ve got enough injuries on the plate, so what I do know is that I see him in his process, and he’s going about it diligently.”

“I’d like to see how he develops this week. I’m not going to rule (him sitting out another week) out. I’m just optimistic that it’s going to turn the corner, and he’s going to feel good. I’m just watching him his diligent work, as he desperately wants to be with his teammates, and I think he’s showing them that.”

“Another soft tissue. He had an injury in training camp that he showed his teammates his internal toughness and fortitude. He came back pretty quick. Really, it’s day-to-day, but I’m optimistic about him.”
