Dolphins hosting two defensive players for pre-draft visits

With the 2023 NFL draft less than a month away, the Miami Dolphins, along with the other 31 teams, have turned their attention toward the prospects who could join their organizations from the collegiate game.

Miami has already reportedly met with TCU running back Kendre Miller, but now they’re adding some defensive players to their list. According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Dolphins are having Nebraska edge rusher Garrett Nelson and Bowling Green defensive tackle Karl Brooks in for pre-draft visits.

Nelson played four years at Nebraska, recording 167 tackles (26 for a loss), 12 sacks and two forced fumbles in 38 career games. He isn’t exactly the most talented player on the field, but his effort has been heralded. Miami would likely be able to grab him on Day 3.

Brooks played five seasons at Bowling Green, recording 167 tackles (27.5 for a loss), 27.5 sacks and five forced fumbles in 49 career games. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein believes he could be a starter in the right scheme at the pro level. Still, mock drafts have him going between Day 2 and early Day 3.

The Dolphins have a lot of talent in their front seven with Christian Wilkins, Zach Sieler, Emmanuel Ogbah, Raekwon Davis, Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb as notable names. However, the trio of interior defenders – Wilkins, Sieler and Davis – are all set to be free agents at the end of the year. Ogbah could also be released to clear $13.8 million in cap space.

General manager Chris Grier has done a great job adding talented young players to a roster full of veterans, and he’ll need to continue doing exactly that, but now he has fewer picks to do it with.
