TRANG: A patrol unit of the Andaman Sea Fisheries Research and Development Centre rescued an Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin with its tail caught in a fishing net off Hat Samran beach in this southern province on Tuesday.
Sophon Thongdee, director-general of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, said the patrol unit was able to cut it free from the four-metre-long fishing net, but there were wounds about one centimetre deep on its tail.
The dolphin was about two metres long. The team was not able to determine its sex during the rescue, he said.
Mr Sophon said he had instructed the Phuket-based centre together with its network and local people to monitor the dolphin's condition.
