Sad news for Dolly Parton fans as the country music superstar says she is done with touring.
The Jolene hit-maker, 76, says she isn’t hanging up her rhinestone-encrusted microphone completely, however, and may do “special shows here and there”.
Speaking to Pollstar, Parton - who will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on November 5 - explained: “I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour any more.”
Musing that she had spent her “whole life” travelling to perform, she says she now wants to “stay a little closer to home” with Carl Dean, her husband, with whom she tied the knot in 1966.
“We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fans,” she added to the publication.
Recording is another matter, however, with Parton currently working on a rock album.
Speaking to Access Hollywood earlier this year, she dished: “I want to do it, like Heart, I want to do some Linda Ronstadt-type thing, maybe some Eagle-type stuff, but I’m going to do some things that might surprise a few people.
“I’ve always wanted to do a rock album, [but] never really felt I had a reason. I thought a lot of people would resent me for it, thinking it was a little out of my league - but I don’t think anything is out of my league if I decide to dive into it.”
