In response to the report, Sheriff Nolasco denied the allegations and shifted the blame to Arredondo, stating that he was the person in charge that day.
In an interview, Jesse Rizzo, who lost his nine-year-old niece, Jackie Casadas, during the Rob Elementary School massacre, expressed his anger after learning about the details revealed in the DOJ report. Rizzo mentioned that learning about the crucial importance of every second during such incidents was deeply upsetting. He was particularly dismayed by the revelation that parents were misled and given false hope about the arrival of another bus that supposedly contained surviving children. Rizzo described the heartache felt by parents who were led to believe their child might still be alive when, in reality, no such bus ever arrived.
Rizzo emphasized the importance of seeking accountability for the failures of the police officers involved. He believed that if timely action had been taken, lives could have been saved.
