Dog walker describes seeing divers searching river where Nicola Bulley was found

A dog walker who filmed specialist divers in the River Wyre near where Nicola Bulley 's body was found described seeing several officers in the water.

Maria Solarz uploaded the clip to YouTube showing the search on April 4.

The mortgage adviser, 45, was reported missing on January 27 after she was last seen walking her dog Willow near the river on St Michael's on the Wyre in Lancashire.

The search saw police, firefighters, mountain rescue, underwater teams and the local community comb through a massive area from the river to the coastline.

The mum-of-two was deemed a "high-risk" missing person due to a "number of specific vulnerabilities".

Her body was tragically found less than a mile from where she was last seen on February 19.

Ms Solarz in the video that she was walking her dog and passed the bench where Nicola's phone was found still connected to a work call.

She said: "Out of nowhere these divers came along and we saw a plain-clothed detective on the bank.

“I didn’t want to get my phone out straight away. He was just kind of stood there for a little bit a few feet away from us.

“We didn’t say anything and I kind of waited until he walked past. Then I got my phone out.

“It just felt awkward. I had to get my dog on the lead because as soon as he saw the divers get in the water he wanted to hop in with them."

She added: “They were wading through. Then when they got to the Wyre they couldn’t actually float over it - they had to climb over it.

“It is encouraging to see that they are in there. We were there altogether for an hour and a half. It wasn’t hugely busy.”

The HM Coroner confirmed in a statement they requested help from Lancashire Police to help produce information on the death of Nicola.

A spokesman for HM Coroner told Lancashire Post: “The investigation will take time to complete to ensure that as complete a picture as possible of the facts concerning Ms Bulley's death is presented at the inquest.

"This will assist the family in understanding what occurred.

"As part of this process, HM Senior Coroner has requested Lancashire Constabulary produce information gathered during the search for Ms Bulley so it can be considered as part of the investigation.”

A police spokesperson told the Mirror: “We can confirm this is us carrying out some work at the direction of HM Coroner."

An inquest into her death is to be heard on Monday, June 26 at County Hall in Preston.

Last month, Nicola's family was not in attendance at the opening of the inquest where it was heard she was identified by dental records.

Opening the inquest, senior coroner Dr James Adeley said he had contacted consultant maxillofacial surgeon Ian Edwards to ask him to compare dental records obtained by police from the Great Eccleston dental surgery.

Dr Adeley said the surgeon found restorative work carried out was identical.

He said: “I am satisfied on the balance of probabilities, and more, that positive identification has been made.”
