Dogs banned from children's play areas and skate parks in Nottinghamshire borough

Dog exclusion zones have come into force across an entire Nottinghamshire borough including in children's play areas and skate parks. Dog walkers who do not carry waste bags while walking their pet also face being fined under new rules.

Rushcliffe Borough Council approved a borough-wide Dog Control Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which is now in place following a meeting on July 7. This order means dogs are banned from certain areas and owners face heftier fines for fouling.

While some residents told Nottinghamshire Live the £100 fine for failing to carry waste bags is "unnecessary", consultations took place last year involving town and parish councils and residents and these received more than 700 responses that overwhelmingly supported the additional PSPO rules, according to the council. It replaces the previous dog fouling order and now covers all public land in the borough to which the public have access to, with an exemption area created in Tollerton.
