Dog who 'would do anything' to please his owners searches for a new home

He has been patiently waiting for an owner to turn up and take him home - but he is yet to win anybody over. Three-year-old Rocco was taken into the RSPCA's Warrington, Halton and St Helens Animal Centre through no fault of his own when his owner's circumstances changed.

The Presa Canaria crossbreed has been placed on the charity's extra-special animals list as he "has never known how to be a dog". A statement reads: "During his stay with us, he has become one of the centre's favourite gentle giants. He loves to play and has very puppy-like behaviour so daily training with him is essential which his new family will need to continue with him.

He is currently in the RSPCA's Warrington, Halton and St Helens Animal Centre's care (RSPCA)

"He is extremely food motivated and will work very hard for a treat reward.

"He takes great pride in mind games and agility - anything that keeps him occupied is a bonus to him."

Rocco is currently working on how to walk nicely on a lead - and is getting much better at it but still has his moments when there's something interesting to sniff.

He has no problems with walking past other dogs and would like to be given a chance to play with a few when the moment arises.

"He will need teaching it's OK to be left alone as this really worries him at the moment," the statement adds.

"We are looking for a family that ideally works from home currently to continue his training.

He can live with children over 16-years-old (RSPCA)

"We feel he would benefit from being the only dog in the home so he can have all the attention and training he needs.

"He can also be nervous of new people but with the correct introductions he soon warms up to them.

"He appears to be almost house trained but will need this reinforcing once he is in his new home."

Rocco loves being bathed and groomed - and works very hard to please his handler.

He needs owners with large breed experience, a large garden, and somebody who is going to be around for most of the day. He can live with children over 16-years-old.
