Dog walker suffers serious head injury after being attacked by golfers on Johnstone course

Police in Renfrewshire are appealing for information following a serious assault in Johnstone.

Around 5.55pm on Sunday, May, 1, police received a report of a man, who had been walking his dog, being assaulted at Cochrane Castle Golf Course, Johnstone.

Emergency services attended and the 49-year-old man was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment to a serious head injury.

Enquiries have revealed the man had been involved in a verbal altercation with a group of golfers near to the 16th green and 17th tee of the course.

Detective Sergeant Jason Buxton, of Paisley CID, said: "A man has been seriously injured and it’s imperative we trace whoever is responsible.

"Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the surrounding area since this incident.

"We believe the area would have been quite busy with golfers and would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.

"If you were in the area at the time, please think back and get in touch with us if you have any information which may be able to assist our investigation."
