A family dog had to be stretchered off a walk in the Mournes after a team of 12 mountain rescue volunteers responded to a call for help on the hottest day of the year.
The Golden Retriever was being walked in the Glen River area of the Mournes when it was feared the dog was suffering from suspected heat exhaustion which can be deadly for dogs in a short period of time.
Mourne Mountain Rescue received the call for assistance shortly before 5pm on Monday, July 18, when temperatures were still in the mid 20s, and a team of 12 attended the scene to assess, treat and transport the dog to safety.
