A dog was shot dead following a sheep-worrying incident in Alva at the weekend.
Police were called to a farm in the village at around 6.15am on Saturday.
A police spokesperson confirmed to the Observer that a dog was “shot and destroyed during the incident”.
Enquiries remain ongoing.
There have been a string of sheep-worrying incidents in the Stirling and Clackmannanshire in recent years.
In March 2021, a Drymen sheep farmer told us he was at his “wits’ end” after one of his animals was attacked by a dog. John Pirie, of Blarnavaid Farm, was left treating one of his black-faced ewes after it was severely injured in a dog attack.
In May that same year, an 84-year-old man was charged following a sheep-worrying incident on farmland near Gartmore. The incident at East Gartfarran Farm involved two dogs chasing and injuring sheep. As a result one sheep was killed and two others were injured.
In June 2021, another dog owner was charged after their pet chased lambs and sheep in a field in Balmaha.
The 37-year-old woman was reported to the Procurator Fiscal for an offence under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act.

Last August, police were appealing for information in connection with a string of sheep-worrying incidents at a farm in Killin.
Police were called to Kinnell Farm, to the south of the River Dochart, after a lamb and a ewe were found injured. The ewe eventually had to be put down.
Under The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2021 owners of dogs that attack or worry livestock can be fined up to £40,000 or even sent to prison for up to 12 months.
Under certain circumstances, farmers can shoot dogs that are attacking or causing distress to their animals.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a sheep- worrying incident at a farm near Alva around 6.15am on Saturday, 29 April.
“A dog was shot and destroyed during the incident.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
