Dog 'riddled with cancer' left to die after being tied outside house

A dog that was found tied outside a house in Kirkby-in-Ashfield has died. Jodie Jamieson, 34, found her in the front garden of a property in Mary Street, where Jodie also lives and called the RSPCA to help the "abandoned" dog.

Sadly Jodie later posted an update on Facebook confirming that the pup had to be put to sleep as she was "absolutely riddled with cancer." The dog was not microchipped and so far nobody has been able to contact the owner.

Josie got in contact with Denise Hardwick who runs a UK rescue called Doggy Dens UK Rescue that helps out in similar cases throughout the UK and in Macedonia. Denise condemned the dog's death as an "act of cruelty."

"Unfortunately, yes, I do know how it ended, the vets had to put her to sleep. Apparently, she was riddled with cancer and so they put her to sleep. Nice of the owner to dump her.

"We actually don't know anything about her, she wasn't microchipped so there's no trace of any owner. The only thing that I suggested was to ask around if anybody has CCTV in the street maybe we could see who it was that tied HIM up.

"It is an act of cruelty at the end of the day. Unfortunately, it's something we see more often than probably people are aware of.

"There was a similar case last year where I went to pick up a dog in Wakefield that had been dumped. She was almost blind when I picked her up but we managed to raise £4,000 and get her to the hospital in Wakefield.

"The veterinary nurse finally adopted her and she's living with her and regained full sight. People are people, they're never going to change, are they."

Josie originally set up a gofundmepage which was created to help care for the dog before vets put her to sleep. On her Facebook page, Josie wrote: "The RSPCA has just been to see me and confirmed the dog has been put to sleep, she was absolutely riddled with cancer.

"I'm gutted, poor baby. I hope she is at peace now."
