A dog is set to be reunited with its family 24 hours after a car was stolen with the pet sitting inside, police say.

Merle border collie Phoenix was still missing after two people were arrested on Friday for the alleged robbery in north Queensland.

Police said Phoenix was in the back seat of a Ford Ranger on Thursday when the accused duo robbed a 43-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl at Kelso, assaulting the victims and stealing the car.

A 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were arrested on Friday.

The car and Phoenix had not been found at that stage, prompting a public appeal for information by police.

But police said late on Friday that Phoenix had been located safe at a Kelso address along with the vehicle.

"Phoenix is being reunited with family this evening," police said.

"Police and the family would like to thank the community for their assistance, which greatly helped officers locate Phoenix."

The man and woman remain in police custody and are expected to be charged with multiple offences, police said.

The two victims were treated at hospital for their injuries.
