LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers severed ties with Trevor Bauer on Friday by designating him for assignment, preferring to pay him to go away rather than to pay him to pitch for their team.
Bauer, who has served the longest suspension ever assessed for violating baseball’s policy on sexual assault and domestic violence, was eligible to rejoin the Dodgers for the third and final year of his three-year, $102 million contract.
“We have decided that he will no longer be part of our organization,” the Dodgers said in a statement.
