Doctor Who spotted filming in familiar Cardiff location ahead of new series

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted Doctor Who being filmed in Cardiff yet again. Production for Series 14 of the classic sci-fi show is well underway and stars including Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson have been seen around south Wales dressed in regency-era clothing, with armoured vehicles, and dressed head-to-toe in 60s garb.

After three special episodes starring David Tennant, new timelord Gatwa is set to take over the Tardis controls over the festive period, with Gibson, who played Kelly Neelan in Coronation Street, as his new companion. The pair have been busy filming over the last few weeks alongside newly-announced guest stars including Glee's Jonathan Groff and drag queen Jinkx Monsoon.

And on Tuesday, June 6, one fan spotted the tell-tale signs of filming back in Cardiff again - this time at the Sherman Theatre, part of the Cardiff University Students' Union building. The fan behind the Doctor Who Filming Locations account on Twitter spotted lighting vans used by Bad Wolf, the production company of returning showrunner Russell T Davies, loading equipment in to the theatre.

Pink 'TB LOC' signs, now well-known as the kind to indicate a Doctor Who filming location, were also seen pointing towards the theatre, making it clear what was being filmed. Unfortunately for fans who made the journey, the stars weren't spotted - although they were seen recently filming on the Parade in the city centre.

Filming for Series 14 hasn't yet concluded, so there might still be a chance for anyone hoping to spot Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson in action. The three specials starring returning duo David Tennant and Catherine Tate, playing the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna Noble respectively, will air in November.

They'll be followed by Ncuti Gatwa's first episode over the holidays, followed by a full series in 2024. Showrunner Russell T Davies is on-record saying he's already started thinking about Series 15, so it could be a busy few years for Doctor Who.
