A doctor has been found guilty of misconduct after criticising patients' English skills in medical records and asking a Muslim woman to remove her veil. Dr Keith Wolverson will now await a decision on his punishment, which could seem him suspended or even struck off.
A Medical Practitioner's Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing, held on Monday, ruled that Dr Wolverson made 'inappropriate' notes on patients' language skills. It also said he was wrong when he asked one patient, known as Mrs Q, to remove her veil to aid communication before criticising her English skills in an email to colleagues.
The Tribunal deemed the woman spoke with good English skills. It also found she made it clear she did not want to remove the veil, nor was it necessary during the consultation at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
