A top North East A&E consultant has warned people across the region to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee sensibly at a time when hospitals remain under extreme pressure.
Kevin Joisce is the consultant in charge of A&E at Sunderland Royal. He said that while his team were ready to look after patients, he wanted to ensure that people did what they could to stay safe and thought carefully about if they need to go to hospital.
He said: "We know that people are excited to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee and will have parties and events planned. While we all want to enjoy ourselves during the long weekend, we don’t want to see people end up in our emergency department with illnesses and injuries that could have been avoided."
