Doctor issues health warning to any couples who share a bed

A doctor has warned couples that if they want a proper night's sleep then they shouldn't share a bed.

He claimed that sharing a bed with your partner can have damaging effects on a person's health. This can be caused by a fidgety partner or someone who snores interrupting your own sleep without you even realising.

According to Dr Karan Rajan, any sleep interruptions can prevent you from entering the deepest stage of the sleep cycle - the REM (rapid eye movement) sleep stage. While one partner could be very well-rested the other could actually be chronically sleep deprived.

But as well as disturbing your partner's sleep, sharing a bed can also result in things heating up - and not in a sexy way. Shared body heat means that it can take longer for you to fall asleep.

In a TikTok vid shared with his 4.8 million followers, Dr Karan, who works as a surgeon and lecturer at the University of Sunderland, said: "One of the triggers you need to be able to fall asleep, is the drop in core body temperature. Sharing a bed increases body heat so it'll take longer for you to fall asleep."
