HYDERABAD: A third year nephrology resident doctor, Dr Rahul Nair was beaten up by patient's kin in early hours of Thursday at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

The incident occurred when a 62-year-old woman brought in a critical condition at 12 in the night, succumbed during treatment. Initially two attendants picked up a fight and tried to assault a female resident doctor.

Dr Rahul intervened and stopped the attendants but later a group of eight returned to the KICU (Kidney Intensive Care Unit) and tried to break the door.
