Fremantle forward Tom Emmett has been banned for the Dockers' clash with Geelong, receiving a one-game suspension for a dangerous tackle.

Essendon defender Jayden Laverde was caught unawares in a run-down tackle from Emmett in the second quarter of Freo's heartbreaking one-point loss on Sunday.

Emmett initially pinned both of Laverde's arms, but the defender managed to free one before he was dumped into the ground, with his head hitting the MCG turf.

The Docker thought he had caught Laverde holding the ball and earned a shot at goal but the tackle was deemed dangerous, with the defender given a free kick.

At the time, Fremantle were ahead by a point.

Emmett was charged with rough conduct, with the tackle graded as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact, drawing a one-match ban.

The Dockers can appeal the suspension, which currently rules Emmett out of Saturday's blockbuster against the Cats at Optus Stadium, at the AFL tribunal.

The 22-year-old forward has played 13 games this season, kicking seven goals.
