Dock road closed after crash while bridge damage is inspected

A main road on Liverpool's docks is closed after a crash.

Emergency services went to the scene of the crash, at around 12pm on Friday, September 30. Police closed the road and have asked motorists to avoid the area, on Regent Road, between Walter Street and Saltney Street.

It is not yet clear what vehicles were involved in the incident. However images from the scene show a tipper truck damaged in the middle of the road, close to the Bascule Bridge.

Liverpool council posted a picture of the scene and said that a section of the road is closed in both directions, including the bridge. The closure is in place while recovery work takes place. The council said it will stay cordoned off until bridge damage is inspected.

A spokesperson said: "Please note Regent Road is closed off near to Stanley Dock after an RTA at the Bascule Bridge. Diversions are in place either side of the bridge on Saltney St and Walter St. Road will remain closed until bridge damage is inspected."

Posting on Merseyside police's Twitter, a spokesperson said: "Road Closure: Regent Road (Dock Road) between Walter Street and Saltney Street, L3, Dock Road is currently closed due to an RTC. Emergency Services are at the scene and dealing. Please avoid the area if possible and find an alternative route for your journey."
