The Democratic National Committee projected images on Trump Tower in New York City on Monday evening, ahead of the vice presidential debate between former President Trump's running mate Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate.
The images displayed by the DNC included a critical comment about Trump that Vance had posted on social media when he referred to Trump as 'What an idiot' in a 2016 social media post.
Vance, who was initially a Trump critic, later became a strong supporter of the former president. After winning the Senate seat in 2022 with Trump's backing, Vance has emerged as a key ally of Trump and his America First agenda.
One of the projections accused Trump of being a 'chicken,' as part of the DNC's ongoing criticism of the former president for refusing to participate in a second debate with Harris. Trump cited the ongoing early voting in several states as the reason for declining another debate.
Another projection displayed 'Project 2025 HQ,' referring to a political initiative by the Heritage Foundation, a prominent conservative think-tank based in Washington, DC. While some individuals involved in Project 2025 have ties to the Trump administration, Trump and his campaign have strongly denied any direct association with the initiative.
A more neutral projection simply read 'Go Coach Walz!' in support of Walz, who had a background as a high school teacher and coach in Nebraska and Minnesota before entering politics.
