DNA donation law passes parliament

Partial DNA donations, reducing the risk of mitochondrial disease, will be permitted under new laws. (AAP)

Federal parliament has legalised partial DNA donations capable of stopping deadly mitochondrial disease in babies.

The laws have been labelled as game changing, with the treatment replacing mitochondrial DNA from the mother with healthy mitochondrial DNA from the egg of a donor.
