DJ Graeme Park’s family flooded with support after son dies at 18

Tributes are being paid to the son of Hacienda legend Graeme Park, who has died after a year-long battle with cancer. In a public post to Facebook, Oli Park’s mum Jenny described him as a ‘true warrior’.

“Today our hearts were broken forever,” she wrote. “After a year long battle with cancer, it finally got the better of you, our amazingly strong and gorgeous boy. You were such a kind, loving and beautiful soul, and I will never understand why you were taken from us. It was far too soon.”

Oliver was diagnosed with a rare cancer on his spine in November, 2021, after his 17th birthday. He is survived by Graeme, Jenny and his twin brother Ben.

“You had so much more love to offer this world,” the post went on. “You never once got angry, complained or felt sad. You were a true warrior throughout and fought so hard to the very end. We will love and miss you every single day for the rest of our lives, Ol.

“The power and love we feel from your guiding spirit is all around us and WILL provide us and Ben, your twin, with the strength to carry on, especially when times get too tough.

“We love you Ol, so so much and even though you’re not here in your physical body, the strength you provide us with and your loving strong spirit will be with us always, we love you so much Oliver Park and thank you for sharing 18 years of your precious life with us.

“Lots of love, Mum, Dad and Ben.”

After Park posted the terrible news on Twitter, the family were flooded with support. Happy Mondays singer Rowetta said: “So so sorry for your loss. Sending love to you, Jenny & Ben.” Former Radio 1 DJ Dave Pearce said: “Graeme so sorry to hear this terrible news - sending you and your family love at this very sad time.”

Sister Sledge singer Kathy Sledge said: “I am so so sorry to hear this news. Sending my prayers to you and your family.” Manchester chef Simon Wood added: I’m so sorry to read this. What you’re feeling and going through is unimaginable,” while Warehouse Project’s Sasha Lord said: “Demi and I send you all of our love. We're so, so sorry Graeme. Anything you need, or we can do, we're here for you and your family. Heartbreaking to read.”
