DIY SOS: Mark Millar's building firm off screen

Mark Millar is one of the most recognised and popular faces on BBC One's hit DIY SOS series. The Northern Irishman also now has his own name in lights as presenter of Channel 5's new show - Dream Kitchens and Bathrooms with Mark Miller.

The builder turned TV star has been working as the project manager overseeing some of the incredible building jobs on DIY SOS since 2006. And Mark will feature again tonight (Tuesday, May 10) on DIY SOS: The Big Build, which airs at 8pm.

Tonight's programme sees presenter Nick Knowles and his team come to the rescue of Kettering mum-of-four Lindsey. It reveals how a project to extend the home she shared with her late husband Shaun was halted last year when tragedy struck and he later died from cancer.

The DIY SOS builders step in to help complete Lindsey's half-finished home. The show sees local traders and Shaun's old Army buddies join in to finish the job.

Mark's cheeky antics on the show have made him a favourite with viewers. But it's his incredible building skills that are what usually carry the day.

Training as a carpenter, he is now settled in Bristol after moving to England from his native Belfast. His adopted city is also home to his own building firm, which he continues to run despite his growing TV commitments.

According to his agents, the DML Talent Agency, his building skills and their exposure on TV have seen him work for several celebrity clients. He has also worked on building projects as far afield as New York and Spain.

The DML Talent website says: "Behind the scenes, Mark plays a vital role editorially and on all production decisions. He visits every site and has a huge say in which stories make it to the screen."

According to Companies House, Mark's company is called Millar Build Limited. Its registered office is in Gloucester Road, Horfield, Bristol.

Outside work, Mark is reported to have a "great passion" for the outdoors. "He was a springboard diver and won the all-Irish diving championships, and now enjoys wild swimming and hunting for great places to do it, kayaking, camping and getting to know the local creatures and nature surrounding him," according to the DML Talent website.

It adds that he also has a passion for motorbikes and for cooking. Mark says that his biggest TV challenge to date was in September 2020 when, together with DIY SOS and Children in Need, he and the team built the first-ever surf school adapted for people with disabilities in Swansea - in just 11 days.
