Divyanka Tripathi reacts to US Supreme Court's abortion ruling, tweets ‘It's happening on the other side of the world, I'm still affected’

Like many Bollywood celebrities expressing their opinion on the US Supreme Court’s abortion ruling, TV celeb Divyanka Tripathi opined on the same.

Taking to Twitter, Divyanka shared that a woman has the right to choose what to do with her body and specially when it comes to bringing up a child. Her tweets read, “It's happening on the other side of the world...I'm still affected. They fought hard for it years back not to lose it again! Women from whichever ethnicity or nation, we are one and women should have a right to decide. #womenrightsarehumanrights.”

Further, when a user commented, “Mujhe Aisa lg rha hai ki aap womens se khudse decision lene ka right chhene gya is wajah se aap women's ki ego hurt hogyi.”

To this, Divyanka replied, “Exactly you fool! You were trying to be funny yet you got the point! You take away anyone's right to decide, that will hurt! A child in the womb may have an anomaly or may be a result of rape or there can be other issues. Woman who brings up a child should have rights to choose.”

For the unversed, the US Supreme Court on Friday (June 24) abolished the constitutional right to abortion, more than 50 years after it was established, leaving individual states to decide. Following the ruling, several states, apart from those where abortion is already illegal, introduced bans on the practice within house of Roe vs Wade being overturned.

Widely seen as one of the most consequential decisions by the Supreme Court, one that many women say infringes on their rights over their own bodies, the ruling will result in an almost immediate ban on abortions, with some exceptions, in most conservative, Republican-governed states.
