Divock Origi transfer edges closer as Premier League offers reported for Liverpool legend

Liverpool legend Divock Origi is set to join AC Milan after reportedly landing in the Italy to complete the deal.

Origi, who signed from Lille in 2014 for £10m, will leave Anfield upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June.

The Belgium international was restricted to just 175 appearances during his Liverpool career - of which only 68 were starts. Nevertheless, many of his 41 goals in that time were memorable. They included six derby strikes against Everton, a brace in the Champions League semi-final comeback against Barcelona in 2019, including the infamous ‘corner taken quickly’ goal, and the clinching goal in the subsequent final against Tottenham Hotspur.

AC Milan have been clear favourites to snap up the striker with the move expected to be announced imminently, according to Fabrizio Romano.

He tweeted: “Divock Origi joins AC Milan, here we go confirmed! Origi has just landed in Milano in order to complete medical tests and sign his long-term deal with Milan on a free transfer.”

AC Milan reportedly beat off interest from Villarreal and other proposals from both Bundesliga and Premier League clubs. He will join the newly-crowned Italian champions who included former Premier League players Fikayo Tomori, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Olivier Giroud, Brahim Diaz and Tiemoue Bakayoko in their squad last season.

After his departure from the Reds was announced, he received an emotional guard of honour following the final game of the season at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp had paid tribute to Origi in the run-up to that Premier League finale against Wolves. He said: “[He is] an outstanding player, an outstanding boy, everybody in the team loves him because he's just a relaxed guy and a really lovable guy. It will be a harsh moment when he actually leaves, it will for us not be now, but whenever it will be it will be harsh.

"Since I'm here Div is here. I remember so many things when I think about Div that's incredible, some important goals, some bad injuries, ups and downs. He is a Liverpool legend, no doubt”
