Police divers are braving waters where a crocodile was spotted, as they join the search for the body of an unidentified man seen near a naval base.
The body was seen floating in the water near an anchored military vessel in Darwin Harbour about 6.30pm on Sunday, with police alerted.
It was last seen submerging underwater shortly after the arrival of officers, Chris Harden, acting officer in charge of the Northern Territory Police search and rescue section told reporters on Tuesday.
Air, water and ground search teams have been searching for the body for two days, including the use of a helicopter and jet skis, and assisted by NT Surf Life Saving members.
Police divers were to be deployed on Tuesday afternoon to search the area where the body was last seen.
"A crocodile was sighted in the water by helicopter, so the brave souls that are going to get in the water, good luck to them," Acting Senior Sergeant Harden said.
A crocodile management team was also on hand as a precaution.
Police want information from anyone who may hold concerns for a person who has failed to attend appointments or has been uncontactable, particularly in the Darwin Harbour area.
Nothing was being ruled out in terms of the man's death, Sen Sgt Harden said.
The man is described as being Caucasian, with a slim build and medium-length grey hair, last seen wearing a light-coloured shirt.
Police will assess whether to continue the search later on Tuesday or early on Wednesday.
