If you fancy having a go at one of the Great North Run's alternative events, now's the time to book up and get a Black Friday discount on the entry fee.
Organisers of the Great North 5k and the Great North Swim and SwimRun are offering cheaper tickets to take part in the events up to 4pm on November 29, saving you 15% on the run and up to £13 on the water events.
Taking place on September 8 next year, the Great North 5k is the curtain-raiser event for the North East’s biggest weekend of sport: the Great North Run. It’s a fun, and fast 5k dash around Newcastle and Gateshead’s vibrant - and flat - Quayside and, like all Great Runs, it’s packed with local support and entertainment. All runners get a medal and a T-shirt at the finishing line.

The Great North 5k is open to runners who are 14 or over on the day of the event and you can book your place here. Entry price is £25, but you can save 15% if you use code BF15 at the checkout.
If swimming is more your thing, you can save Save up to £13 on Great North Swim and £10 on Great North SwimRun, both held over in the Lake District next summer. There are a variety of events making up the Great North Swim over the weekend of June 9-11 at Brockhole, on the banks of Lake Windermere, ranging from a 250m swim for aged 8 and over right up to a 10k swim for aged 18 and over.

For those who want a go at both running and swimming, there is also the Great North SwimRun, held on June 10. The event begins on the shores of Windermere and the finish line of the event will be shared with the Great North Swim, where family and friends can watch all the action while enjoying food and drink from local vendors.
