The departments of Health and Local Self Government will join hands to take up a district- level campaign for pre-monsoon cleaning to thwart a spurt in communicable diseases.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting attended by Health Minister Veena George and LSG Minister M.V. Govindan.
The meeting decided to step up vector control measures in all districts. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays will be observed as dry days in houses, schools and institutions respectively. A participatory campaign will be launched to clean up the premises of residential and institutional buildings.
District Collectors will initiate measures to prepare action plans and health alert calenders based on the communicable diseases reported. Surveillance against vector-borne, zoonotic and water-borne diseases has been launched and a heightened alert has been maintained against dengue fever and leptospirosis.
The meeting has also stressed the need to remain vigilant against Nipah and COVID-19 and ensure proper reporting of communicable diseases at the regional level.
Local bodies will be directed to coordinate with the Health department and Suchitwa mission. Ward-level committees will be activated and equipped for the campaign against communicable diseases.
Additional Chief Secretary, LSG, Sarada Muraleedharan, Principal Secretary, Health, Dr. Rajan B. Khobragede, District Collectors and District Medical Officers and surveillance officers were present.
