Distillery cans award-winning King Edward vodka as a summer spritz

Northern Lincolnshire’s premium vodka brand is now putting a cocktail in a can for drinking convenience.

Elsham Wold Distillery, the company behind the award-winning Edwards 1902 tipple, has released Rhubarb Vodka Spritz and Lime & Ginger Spritz.

Described as “perfect for summer socialising or relaxed cocktails” the English King Edward potato is at the heart of both, first grown in the fields where the business has made its home.

Lightly carbonated, the five per cent ABV 250ml premium spritz cans join the growing collection of luxury products.

It follows promotional activity including a festival bar.

Emma Hamilton, the co-founder who brought London food and drinks industry expertise to the partnership which includes her distiller brother Matthew and Richard Arundel, who heads up supermarket-supplying AKP in Elsham, said: “Developing ready-to-drink cans is something we have been planning for a while. Our premium vodka cocktails have been received exceptionally well by at-home drinkers and the on-trade, so it only made sense to offer them as a pre-made option for the off-trade.

“Across the industry, there is a clear rebranding of canned alcoholic drinks, from a low-grade quick fix to a luxury experience that delivers a completely convenient canned beverage, without sacrificing on flavour or quality.”

Launching its flagship Edwards 1902 in early 2020, the name played on more than a century’s Lincolnshire potato-growing heritage within the founders’ circle.

The “royal story, rich qualities and close ties” gave them the confidence to create what they claim to be “one of the smoothest premium potato vodkas on the market today”.

It is a belief now backed by a Masters and a gold medal at The Spirits Business’ Global Spirits Awards, with the original listed by Harrods.

The rhubarb variety, taking the produce grown in Yorkshire, was added to the range this spring.

Currently available direct from the three-year-old business, the cans are being sold in packs of 12, for £30.
