Disruption and delays on Cheltenham Road and Ashley Road until May

Two key roads near to the city centre are to be hit with roadworks until the end of May. Delays are expected as roadworks at Cheltenham Road and Ashley Road take place.

The traffic order from Bristol City Council started at the beginning of the month and could be in place for a maximum of eighteen months, but it is expected the roadworks will be finished by the end of May. As a result of the works, Ahley Road has been closed from Picton Street to Stokes Croft while Nine Tree Hill has been shut from Stokes Croft to Armada Place.

Traffic from Picton Street and Stokes Croft has also been banned from taking a right turn into Ashley Road. The existing westwards one-way traffic at Nine Tree Hill has also been suspended temporarily.

It states on the order: "The Order is required because traffic signal refurbishment works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the roads and becomes operative from March 1, 2022 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the restrictions may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works."

One Network states that the works are expected to be concluded by May 24. Nearby Hepburn Road has also been shut from its junction with Stokes Croft in an easterly direction for a distance of 44 metres.

It states: "This Notice is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public due to excessive increase in traffic flow, on or near the road, and will be valid for a maximum period of 21 days, which commence on 23rd March 2022. However, the closure may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the danger."
