Disposable barbecue causes fire that spread to property in Nottinghamshire village

Crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene of a fire that had spread to the house in a Nottinghamshire village during the early hours of Saturday morning (June 3).

Firefighters from Hucknall and Ashfield rushed to the scene of the incident at a house in Newstead at 2.40am A spokesperson for said the fire that had spread to the house in Newstead and that it had been caused by a disposable barbecue that had been left on combustible material.

A spokesperson for the Nottinghamshire fire service said: "The cause of the fire was found to be a disposable barbecue that had been left on combustible material. The fire then spread to the property."

The fire was extinguished by Firefighters using one hose reel jet, breaking in gear and thermal imaging camera was also used.

A spokesperson for Ashfield Fire Station said: "If you use a disposable barbecue please ensure that it is not left in or close to anything combustible.

"If you can you could put sand or soil onto your disposable barbecue to put it out, this will not cool the barbecue so please do this with care as it will still be hot.

"Never leave a disposable barbecue indoors, this will give off deadly carbon monoxide gas."
