Disney World Makes a Desperate Star Wars Move (You May Love It)

Disney (DIS) is offering a spirited new promotion as Star Wars Day approaches.

The day is observed on May 4, riffing on the play on words that sounds like a line from the films, "May the fourth be with you."

DON'T MISS: Disney World Brings Back a Fan-Favorite Event

The promotion is a new sweepstakes for fans of Disney World and Star Wars, announced May 2 by Disney World and shopDisney

"Star Wars fans! This one is for you," writes BlogMickey.com.  "ShopDisney, the destination for the latest and greatest Star Wars merchandise, is giving you the chance to be the hero of your very own Star Wars adventure."

The chance to join the sweepstakes is available the entire month.

"Now through May 31, you can enter the Star Wars Galactic shopDisney Sweepstakes for a chance to win a vacation to the Walt Disney World Resort, including a 2-day voyage aboard the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser and four Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge legacy lightsaber hilts from shopDisney," the blog explained.

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is described as an "immersive adventure."

It involves a two-night experience where participants engage in their own Star Wars scenarios.

It's "part live immersive theater, part themed environment, part culinary extravaganza, part real-life role-playing game -- and yet so much more," wrote BlogMickey.com

A participant in the sweepstakes is required to enter an email address on the shopDisney sweepstakes promotion page.

The immersive Star Wars experience starts at $5,000 for two people. There has been speculation that Disney may have misjudged demand for it. Disney has reportedly sent travel agents an email saying that it's going to cut the number of "Galactic Starcruiser" "voyages" between October and the end of December.

Disney is also celebrating Star Wars Day by releasing a new series, "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," and a Star Wars-themed short from "The Simpsons" called "Maggie Simpson in 'The Force Awakens From Its Nap."

The piece is "a new Star Wars-inspired short, bringing characters from the Star Wars galaxy to the fictional town of Springfield," Disney wrote in a press release. "The new promotional short is the first of several from 'The Simpsons' that Disney Plus will release throughout the year paying tribute to the service’s marquee brands and titles."
