Disney World fans furious as meal price spikes to £570 after Covid closure

Disney World fans are unhappy about the eye watering cost of a meal at one of the resort's parks, it has been reported.

While sometimes known as being 'the happiest place on Earth', some of those who have visited the Florida amusement resort are grumbling.

They claim that a spike in prices at the on-site Victoria and Albert restaurant in the past couple of years is unacceptable.

The restaurant is located in Disney’s grand Floridian resort and spa, which Disney says has a "Victorian elegance" which "meets modern sophistication".

It is widely seen as the jewel in the crown of a restaurant portfolio at the park which has town eateries to choose from.

After closing during the Covid pandemic for a renovation, the Victoria and Albert is now back open with a fresher look.

While the revamp may be welcome, what is not - at least for some people - are the higher price points.

The restaurant offers three distinct prix-fixe menu options, Today reports.

The standard menu begins at $295 (£267) per person with optional wine pairings starting at $150 (£136) or nonalcoholic pairings which start at $110 (£100).

This is a marked change from the $185 (£168) per person at the time of closure and $250 (£227) cost for wine pairings.

That is a difference in price of $195 (£177) for the cheapest option, according to the Disney Food blog.

While this may have rankled, a bigger point of contention seems to be the more luxurious options, such as the Queen Victoria Room dinner.

This now costs $575 (£522) when the meal is paired with alcohol.

The Chef’s Table tasting menu, which used to cost $350 (£317) per person, has been bumped up to $425 (£386) without alcohol, and $625 (£567) with booze.

Despite a recent rise in the rate in the US, those increase are far above inflation.

On Reddit some Disney enthusiasts have expressed their displeasure at the amount a meal at the restaurant now costs.

“Crazy over priced…” one person wrote, suggesting that most Michelin star restaurants in New York don't cost that much.

Another added: “I’m sure it’s a great experience and super fancy, but no thanks. I’m out. No chance I’m spending $300 a person to eat some food."

Others argued that the price point was justified, with one person describing the cost for the meal as "completely worth it."

They were joined by another defended who said: “If you really value an exclusive experience with elevated service and elevated food, $300 bucks is probably not unheard of."

Disney World has been contacted for comment.
