Disney has announced the upcoming release of two beloved films from director M. Night Shyamalan, 'The Sixth Sense' and 'Signs', on 4K Blu-ray. These films, considered among Shyamalan's best works, will be available in stunning 4K resolution with high dynamic range grading, maintaining their original 1.85:1 aspect ratios.
The 4K transfers for both films have been meticulously crafted from new scans of the original negatives, promising a crisper and more detailed viewing experience. Notably, Disney has opted for 100GB 4K Blu-ray discs for these releases, providing ample space for the 4K masters.
Both 'The Sixth Sense' and 'Signs' will feature 5.1 DTS-HDMA audio mixes, offering immersive sound quality to complement the enhanced visuals. However, these releases will not include Dolby Atmos tracks, a departure from Disney's usual offerings.
While the absence of Dolby Vision HDR masters and special features may disappoint some fans, the overall quality and consistency of the 4K Blu-ray format are reasons to celebrate. Disney's commitment to reissuing classic titles in 4K physical media demonstrates its ongoing support for the format.
The 4K Blu-ray editions of 'The Sixth Sense' and 'Signs' are set to launch in the US on October 22. Additionally, digital versions of these films will be available for streaming from August 27, either individually or as part of a Shyamalan bundle that includes 'Unbreakable' in 4K.
For enthusiasts seeking superior audiovisual fidelity, the 4K Blu-ray releases offer a premium viewing experience that streaming services may not match. Stay tuned for potential updates on special features and format enhancements as more information becomes available.
