The season three finale of The Mandalorian is just hours away, and a star of the show has said the last episode will “hurt too much”. The hit Disney+ series set in the Star Wars universe has seen the gunslinger Din Djarin and his green companion Grogu traverse a galaxy far, far away, but the climactic episode could spell heartbreak for both Din and fans alike.
Star of the series Brandan Wayne – who stars as the titular bounty hunter alongside Pedro Pascal – has shared a cryptic message on social media that has fans worried. The actor – the grandson of legendary Western star John Wayne – shared a post on his Instagram story with a caption that read: “This next episode is gonna make you wish you hadn’t asked for more… it might just hurt too much.”
Wayne’s cryptic post coupled with the dramatic events of the previous episode suggests something terrible may be in store for the show’s heroes. The penultimate episode – titled Chapter 23: The Spies – left things on a cliffhanger.

Din, Grogu and the rest of the Mandalorians travelled into the depths of Mandalore, only to be ambushed by a wave of Stormtroopers wearing Beskar armour. After a dramatic battle, Din was captured by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), who revealed his plan to wipe out the remaining Mandalorians.

As Din was whisked away, the rest of the group managed to escape thanks to the hulking Paz Vizsla, who fought off the Stormtroopers but was eventually struck down by Gideon’s Praetorian Guards. It remains to be seen what will become of the captured Din, but many fans have taken to social media sharing their theories that this may be the end of the road for the series protagonist.

While The Mandalorian is no Game of Thrones – which was never afraid to kill off a main character – killing Din would be a very bold move. Yet given how Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) has taken on more of a lead role in the latest series and become a surrogate mother to young Grogu, fans feel the show’s writers may be gearing up for her to take the reins going forward.
On Twitter, @Ewalsh88337727 said: “I have a horrible feeling that Din will die.”
@lpagan2376 echoed: “I have a feeling they are setting up Bo Katan to take over the Mandalorian show, and kill off Din.”
@ChefLuisFayad added: “I've been telling y’all Din is dying this season. It’s the Bo-Katan show going forward.”
@TheStarWarsAcad added: “I will beg the God’s at Lucasfilm to PLEASE spare Din!”
There is some hope for Mando fans, however, given Jon Favreau’s recent comments. Speaking to Collider during Star Wars Celebration, the showrunner and writer of the upcoming finale said: “Hopefully they’ll [fans] feel satisfied. They’ll feel resolved, and they’ll also feel a little surprised.”
Executive producer Dave Filoni echoed this sentiment, revealing that fans will be “cheering” during the season finale. He said: “They’ll have a lot to take in, and I think with any good ending there’s the moment you’re in it when you’re cheering and you feel satisfied, but then there’s a little bit after that where you think back at all the things that happened.
“Maybe you start to put them together in a different way and you realise it’s an ending, but there are other things happening out there in the galaxy that now you know more about.”
The Mandalorian season three finale drops on Disney+ on Wednesday, April 19.
