Disney composer Hans Zimmer stunned his audience as he proposed to his girlfriend live on stage during a London show.
The 65-year-old German composer, best known for his musical magic on Disney movies such as The Lion King and PIrates of the Caribbean, shared a romantic moment with 20,000 fans gathered at The O2 on Thursday for his Hans Zimmer Live show.
Hans, who has also worked on Hollywood blockbusters including Dunkirk and Inception, surprised his girlfriend, entrepreneur and New York hotel owner Dina De Luca, as he invited her up on stage towards the end of his concert.
“There’s one more thing. So this is the woman I love, apparently she loves me,” the two-time Oscar winner told the audience.
“Why did I bring you up here? I was going to ask you something really important. Did you lock the back door? Is the milk in the fridge? Do we have any sorbet in the freezer?” he joked.
Hans then plucked up the courage to ask Dina: “Will you marry me?”
The audience erupted into applause as she accepted his proposal, and the couple sweetly embraced onstage.
“Things are working out well,” he added.
Hans then performed a piece of music, called Time, from Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending drama Inception as his new fiancee sat alongside him at the piano.
“I’ve got this one little number left. It’s intimate in its insignificance but maybe not so insignificant and maybe I quite like it,” Hans said.
The award-winning musician has composed scores for over 150 films, including Gladiator, The Dark Knight trilogy, and Interstellar.
He won an Oscar in 1995 for his work on the Disney animated classic The Lion King, and at last year’s Academy Awards, he scooped the Best Original Score gong for his work on the sci-fi epic Dune.
The composer has been married twice before - to model Vicki Carolin, and then to Suzanne Zimmer.
Hans split from his second wife in 2020, and they share three children together.
