As Walt Disney (DIS) celebrates its hundredth anniversary this year, it’s more than just Disney celebrating across its brands of theme parks and media as it has partnered up with other companies to join in the fun. Disney has partnered in the past with McDonald’s (MCD) and the fast-food chain is at it again with Happy Meal toys celebrating Disney’s centennial anniversary. The Happy Meal is featuring six different games with posters and activity booklets for kids.
McDonald’s also celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World last year by having commemorative Disney character statues. The toys are not only fun for kids but a big collector’s item to others.
Celebration Continues With New Products
Disney has partnered with Post Consumer Brands POST to create new unique breakfast cereals that celebrate Disney's 100th anniversary. The Disney 100 Mickey Mouse Club cereal is confetti cake flavored in honor of the centennial celebration for the Walt Disney Companies. The confetti cereal will feature different boxes throughout the year celebrating different characters and time periods.
Post and Disney have also released a special edition collectors' cereal item that has red and blue fruity flavor cereal shaped like the silhouette of the Mickey Mouse himself. The special edition cereal will be available at grocery retailers nationwide throughout 2023.
For collectors the confetti cake cereal will have a special edition Mickey Mouse themed collector’s metal tin. Inside the tin consumers will find a cereal box showcasing a retro design that stems from the first time Post and Disney collaborated on a product back in 1934, the Post Toasties cereal. The metal tin symbolizes a time capsule, but the premium collector’s item will only be sold at Walmart.com with limited quantities available.
“Post Consumer Brands is honored to join in the celebration of Disney100 alongside other manufacturers creating unique offerings this year.” said Post Consumer Brands Senior Brand Manager, Logan Sohn. "We are inspired by Disney and the wonder they’ve unlocked for consumers over the past 100 years, and we hope these themed cereal offerings help bring the celebration to life at the breakfast table.”
Disney Celebration Continues
Disney will continue its celebration beyond its collaborations with Post Consumers and McDonald's. As the company is winding down its 50th anniversary at Walt Disney World, it will move right into its celebration of the company's hundredth anniversary with Disney 100 Year of Wonder.
Disney characters are expected to get new wardrobes to commemorate the 100-year celebration. Over in Hong Kong Disney, an unveiling of a statue of Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney will happen. Disney fans are going to see centennial memorabilia and other fun specials around the different theme parks. There isn't an end date set for the party to wind down, but the party is expected to last all year long once all the activities get going.
And of course, there will be special food and merchandise available. Disney merch like the ever-popular popcorn buckets, drink tumblers, and Mickey sippers. Special Disney treats like the Minnie platinum caramel apple and a Minnie chocolate cake pop. Different Disney restaurants will be offering different foods, with too many to list them all, however one sweet sounding special is the Platinum Trifle, which has chocolate cookie crumble layers, cheesecake, cherry compote, chocolate cookie mousse and crème fraîche chantilly with crunch pearls and a chocolate piece. This can be found at the Jolly Holiday Cafe in Disneyland.
