Disgusted mum says Asda Café served daughter chips that tasted like 'rotting horse poo'

A “furious” mum has slammed Asda after claiming their café served her daughter chips that smelled and tasted of “rotting horse manure”.

The Essex mum, who wanted to remain anonymous, was served the horrific meal at an Asda Café in Clacton-on-Sea when she went there with her daughter, known as ‘P’.

When ‘P’ went to take a bit of her chips she said it “tasted like horse poo”. Her mum described the chip as “vulgar” and agreed it smelled like “rotting horse manure”.

The sickening chips left her feeling “sick to her stomach” and she was worried about letting her daughter eat anymore of the dodgy potato snack, EssexLive reported.

After complaining to café staff, the mum-of-three was offered a refund but said she was left upset that staff never apologised for the incident.

Taking to Facebook to complain about the meal, she said: "Do not eat at Asda in Clacton. Ordered P chips today, she bit into one & said 'erghh Mummy it tastes like horse poo!'

"I smelt it & no word of a lie, it was VULGAR & smelt like ROTTING HORSE MANURE! Obviously, I told them & the lad agreed it smelled horrid, & they refunded me but I am FURIOUS they could even let something like that happen & they weren't even apologetic in the slightest!

“Makes me feel sick to my stomach! Never mind my poor Daughter who actually put it in her mouth!”

The mum was also left furious about other aspects of the café, including at the range of food on offer and pre-made pick ‘n’ mix offerings.

She continued: "Not to mention the shambles of the café having a menu & being told 'most things on it we don't actually serve'.

“The woman working there was also pre-making the pick n mix kids lunch bags because 'she's sick of customers throwing in anything they want' & 'I bet the kids will whinge that they don't like certain bits'...

"Well what's the point of trying to help parents with 'kids eat for £1' when they can't actually choose what they want? Defeats the purpose, surely. The whole café is a shambles".

The meal was a part of Asda’s new campaign that sees kids eat for £1 at any time of the day in their cafes.

It was introduced to help with the cost-of-living crisis and is valid during the summer holidays.

A spokesperson for Asda said: "We are sorry that she was unhappy with the kids eat for £1 meal in our café and have refunded this purchase.

“Thousands of children across the UK have already enjoyed the meal offer since it was launched earlier this week and we have not received any other complaints like this."
