An Ebola outbreak raging through the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has crossed a devastating milestone, with more than 2,000 confirmed deaths as health workers struggle to contain a virus spreading through communities already facing conflict and limited access to medical care.
The latest World Health Organization data shows 4,381 confirmed cases. The outbreak involves the Bundibugyo ebolavirus, a strain that presents an additional challenge because medical tools developed for other Ebola strains do not necessarily work against it.
