A dog owner had a nightmare first date - after his jealous pet Collie bit his new woman and he was hauled to court.
Alan Dean, 71, was hoping his pet Welsh Collie dog would delight Carol Durie after meeting on the Plenty of Fish dating app.
The pair arranged to meet up for a first date - and were joined by Dean’s beloved Welsh Collie called Freddie.
A court heard they went for a countryside walkies in the village of Llanymynech, Powys, when they decided to go back to Dean’s home.
Victim Miss Durie was alone in the room with the dog - when Freddie “pinned” his paws on her shoulders.
Magistrates heard Dean had been out of the room making a drink when his pooch sunk his teeth into Ms Durie’s hand and forearm.
Miss Durie told the court the dog had been acting aggressively throughout the afternoon in September 2020.
She said the dog “should have been muzzled” - and that the previous owner had told Dean that he “should have been put down”.
The court heard Dean claimed that his pet had only reacted when Ms Durie’s tried to push him away.
He said Freddie had not had any trouble before or after the incident.
Magistrates said: “Ms Durie was a credible and consistent witness and has a long history of animal experience.
“Alan Dean was consistent in his belief of the truth of his evidence but his demeanour changed under cross-examination from the prosecution.”
Dean, of Oswestry, was found to be in charge of a dog out of control and given a community order with a 7pm to 7am curfew.
He was also ordered to pay £400 in compensation by Telford magistrates.
A contingent destruction order was also issued for Freddie, who must be muzzled in public and only walked by someone over the age of 18.
