Disabled woman who needs 24/7 care 'left in council flat without bathroom for 14 months'

The sister of a severely disabled woman claims that her sibling was left without a bathroom for 14 months in her council flat, allegedly causing her to fall and fracture her spine. Lisa Wheeler, 58, moved into the one-bedroom council flat in 2017 and claims the water from her shower was completely disconnected between May 2021 to August 2022.

The siblings claim problems in the Essex flat first arose when the ceiling allegedly caved in in May 2021 from heavy rain, which they say damaged the ground floor hallway and Lisa's bathroom. They also claim asbestos was discovered last August in the accommodation, which although allegedly deemed safe following a council assessment, meant her shower was out of bounds.

The issues with the bathroom meant Lisa was often left with no other option but to visit the communal shower room on the first floor, despite her limited mobility, The 58-year-old says she has a variety of neurological and physical conditions, including Wernicke’s, and dry beriberi, for which she needs around-the-clock care and uses a range of mobility equipment to move around.
