A mum with disabilities watched the Ryanair plane that was supposed to take her to her son in Spain take off as she sat just yards away. Margaret Harrop and her husband John had arrived at the gate early at Newcastle Airport but were not able to board the plane to Alicante as she was still in the special assistance vehicle.
It would have been Margaret's first visit to see son Keith who had moved to the Costa Blanca in July 2020. The retired couple's plans were scuppered when the 11am Ryanair flight FR4080 on Wednesday (September 28) left when they were still waiting to be helped on to the plane, Chronicle Live reports.
Margaret and John, from Kenton, had arrived at the airport well in advance of their flight, getting to the airport at 8.20am, depositing their suitcases and heading through security without a hitch. They went to special assistance and were told to be at Gate 19 for 10am, saying that they arrived 20 minutes before.
