Disabled HMRC worker wins £20,000 after bosses refuse to let him apply for a promotion

A disabled HMRC worker has been given £20,000 after he was refused the chance to apply for a promotion as he could not drive.

According to an employment tribunal, Hamish Drummond, from Dundee, should have been allowed to apply for one of 10 senior tax investigator jobs on offer by the public body in 2020.

Having been a tax office employee for 20 years, he was encouraged to go for the role, a more senior version of his existing job, only to be knocked back before he could finish the application process.
