Disability pay set to rise

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) plans to seek cabinet approval next month to raise the monthly disability allowance from 800 baht to 1,000 baht.

MSDHS spokesman Phupa Thaithae said on Monday the proposal was approved by the national committee for the promotion and development of the quality of life of persons with disabilities, chaired by Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat.

The meeting agreed to the increase, and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities will expedite drafting the proposal for submission to the cabinet in July.

The panel also acknowledged progress on a new disability rights bill and approved regulatory changes, including allowing electronic applications for disability service centres and ID cards.
