When Rihanna stepped out in a pink Chanel coat from Karl Lagerfeld’s AW96 collection with chains of pearls and low waist denim exposing her bump, alongside beau A$AP Rocky, she shocked the world. Little did we know the star was simply starting her high fashion maternity as she intended to go on.
That was January 31. Now she has taken to the cover of US Vogue in a burnt orange lace Alaïa jumpsuit, with opera gloves and pointed stilettos, clearly set on making a statement about pregnancy style.
“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, there’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle. I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing,” the 34-year-old singer and makeup mogul told Vogue.
“I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women,” she continued. “My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”
With the help of her stylist Jahleel Weaver, Rihanna has personally shifted the needle on how it looks to be with child. Since the internet shaking reveal, she has stepped out in look after stomach accentuating look.
During Paris Fashion Week, RiRi sat front row at the Off-White show held in tribute to Virgil Abloh. She tackled the supermodel-heavy affair in a straight-off-the-runway shearling Diesel coat from Creative Director Glenn Martins’ AW22 collection. Underneath she opted for a skimpy peach mini dress.
And she saved her most daring Fashion Week look for Dior’s runway: a sheer black lace slip dress with strappy pants on show, complete with black leather trench and a pair of patent knee high boots.
Rihanna went similarly see-through for an Oscar’s after party at the end of March, posting her sheer organza black Valentino Haute Couture look to Instagram. Her caption read: “me and my date for Oscar Gold Party,” and saw her pout while proudly clutching her stomach. A transparent top was paired with a bandeau, crystal embellished gloves, sparkling sequin skirt, Jimmy Choo heels and a pair of Wilfredo Rosado diamond earrings. Talk about party time.
She has also continued to completely bare the bump – like at Gucci’s AW22 show in Milan, which she attended wearing a latex bra and Chinese dragon embroidered black trousers plucked from the brand’s SS22 catwalk.
More recently, the singer has shared pictures of herself in a pink towelling bralette from Bottega Veneta, paired with distressed low rise jeans a beige jacket from denim brand R13. In unlikely fashion, she accessorised with a matching pink faux fur fox stole – no one can say she plays by the books.
Other fashion moments for the books have included the mother-to-be rocking a vinatge Roberto Cavalli AW02 leopard print and denim spliced over coat; an electric pink mohair mini dress with feather trim by Saint Laurent; and a Stella McCartney turquoise cut-out jumpsuit from the SS22 catwalk – which she posted with the simple caption “thicc.”
