Diogo Jota injury latest as Liverpool star in race to be fit to face Norwich

Liverpool will be hoping to avoid any slip ups to ensure they collect all three points when they host struggling Norwich City at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Reds have been majorly boosted by the return of all their injured players in the past week and Jurgen Klopp was able to operate with a fully fit squad for the Champions League tie with Inter Milan on Wednesday.

Following that game, Klopp’s side came away relatively unscathed and should once again have similar options available for the visit of the Canaries this weekend.

With a strong squad side to pick from, and coming off the back of a midweek trip to Italy, Klopp has the luxury of being able to rotate his lineup should he need to, in order to freshen things up.

Though the Reds do have one injury concern in the form of forward Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese star picked up an ankle injury during the first half of Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Inter and was subsequently substituted at half-time.

Jota has a swollen ankle after twisting it against their Serie A opponents and has not recovered in time to feature against Norwich on Saturday.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend's game, Klopp said: "He will not be available but the extent is still not clear. It will need further assessment. It's something around the ligaments. Everything is pretty much possible in the moment. Hopefully it will be really quick."

Jota has been in red-hot form for his side in recent weeks, stepping up to fill the void left by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah's absences at the Africa Cup of Nations with five goals since the turn of the year.

Klopp does have options to cover for Jota on Saturday and would likely be prepared to rest the 25-year-old even if he does prove his fitness in time.

Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino both started on the bench in Wednesday's clash with Inter before coming on and making big impacts as substitutes.

Either player could indeed start against Norwich, or perhaps even both, with Klopp no doubt also keeping one eye on Wednesday's meeting with Leeds.
