Diogo Dalot pinpoints when Manchester United mood will change under Erik ten Hag

Diogo Dalot believes that the Manchester United squad will be excited to start working with Erik ten Hag in pre-season.

United confirmed the appointment of Ten Hag as their next permanent manager last month after agreeing a £1.7million deal to release him from his Ajax contract. The 52-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford with the option of a further 12 months.

After wrapping up the Eredivisie title this week, the Dutchman has just one more match at the helm at Ajax before he can turn his attention to the massive task he faces at United after another dismal season. United will embark on a pre-season tour in July that will see them travel to Thailand and Australia to play friendlies against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace.

Dalot believes the tour will be the perfect chance for the squad to turn over a new leaf as they begin work with their new coach.

"Just because there's a tour it's a good opportunity for everyone," he told United's in-house media. "A new start, a new chapter, a new era.

"So I think everyone will be excited, I'm sure that the manager will be excited to work with us as well. So we need to build everyone as a team, as a group, as a club, and hopefully next season we can be solid and start the season well with a very good coach."

Dalot has also outlined his personal target of adapting to Ten Hag's demands for players in the full-back position as quickly as possible once the new boss arrives.

"I think the full-back position has been growing a lot in terms of the game plan and inside of the game," the Portuguese added. "For me, it's been a very good journey to have different coaches, different ideas, so I can adapt in every situation.

"I'm sure that with the new manager I'll try to adapt quick and show him that I can help this team, this club, and I think that's the mentality that everyone will have. At the end of the day we all want to play but the first thing is the team."
